ThunderCats #1 Surpasses 100,000 Pre-Sales Milestone: A Comic Phenomenon Unveils
Dynamite Entertainment’s highly anticipated ThunderCats comic for 2024 has achieved a remarkable feat with over 100,000 pre-sales for its inaugural issue. The impressive reception precedes the Final Order Cutoff (FOC) date, underscoring the fervent anticipation surrounding this collaboration between Warner Bros. and Dynamite.
Dynamite CEO Nick Barrucci expressed gratitude, stating, “It’s incredibly rewarding that the fans and retailers have supported this so well.” He emphasized the unusual success of the comic’s early sales, considering the historically quieter months of January and February. Barrucci attributed their optimism and decision to launch the series in February, defying the typical late sprint or early summer trend.
The upcoming ThunderCats comic serves as a reboot to the beloved 1985 animated series, tracing the journey of Thundarians escaping the doomed planet Thundera. Stranded on Third Earth, Prince Lion-O leads a group of survivors facing the challenges of building a new home while confronting familiar foes like the Mutants of Plun-Darr and new threats such as the sorcerer Mumm-Ra.
Despite drawing inspiration from the original cartoon, Barrucci assures that the new series is crafted to be accessible to both long-time fans and newcomers. “Writer Declan Shalvey, artist Drew Moss, and the entire creative team have crafted something special for both longtime and newer fans of the ThunderCats franchise,” he affirmed. The creative ensemble features cover artists David Nakayama, Lucio Parrillo, Jae Lee, and Ivan Tao.
